This weekend saw dramatic immigration raids throughout southern California and a severe crackdown on protests in downtown Los Angeles. While hostile action toward immigrant communities is nothing new, what we witnessed this weekend marks a dangerous escalation. We condemn this chapter of federal overreach and the fear it is causing communities in California and the United States. From construction sites to graduation ceremonies, immigration enforcement officials are sending a clear message that they do not recognize the love, labor, and humanity of immigrants—even the same immigrants who worked tirelessly to bring relief to victims of disastrous wildfires.
We will continue working to ensure that anywhere children learn, from libraries to classrooms, can remain safe and secure from intrusive and destructive immigration enforcement. We are incredibly proud of our coalition members and the statements and resources they are putting out to support immigrants and their allies. Please see below for links.
