CABE 2026 Workshop: Support Immigrant Students: Create Safe Spaces and Build Resilience with Award-Winning Literature

In this half-day institute, participants will learn about the current context for immigrant students and families in California, receive guidance on creating safe and inclusive schools, engage in hands-on training of literature-based interactive classroom lesson modules (for grades K-2, 3-5, 6-12) addressing the social emotional needs of immigrant students, and walk away prepared to deliver age-appropriate lessons with a trainer binder, presentation slides, activity handouts, and other resources including copies of the children’s books: La Frontera, Pancho Rabbit and the Coyote, and Refugee.
This workshop will be presented by Californians Together Project Director, ELLLI & Support for Immigrant and Refugee Students Ruth Barajas, and Professional Learning Specialist Amber Riehman.
