Earlier this month, we celebrated the passage of three pieces of legislation—AB 370, AB 393, and AB 714. These three bills, respectively, create more equitable pathways for English learners to earn the State Seal of Biliteracy, enable data use to identify and support dual language learners in early education, and create guidance for supporting newcomers. Since that initial celebration, AB 1127 has also been signed into law. This crucial piece of legislation re-establishes the Bilingual Teacher Professional Development Program—a move that is critical for strengthening educator pipeline and serving multilingual learners.
We want to thank everyone who worked to advocate for these bills, especially our partners who co-sponsored legislation with us: California Association of Bilingual Education (AB 370, AB 1127, AB 393) and California Early Edge (AB 393).
We also want to thank those of you who wrote to the governor asking for his signature. We are grateful for your support.
