What Head Start’s English-Only Rule Could Mean for English Learners

A proposed rule change from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services would require all Head Start programming to be conducted in English. This move would represent a major reversal of previous policies that work to affirm home language and build on the knowledge and skills multilingual learners bring to early education classrooms every day. Californians Together Executive Director Martha Hernandez spoke with Education Week about the potential impacts English learners would face if the rule is adopted as proposed.
