Trump freezes grant funding, upending school budgets

July 1st marks the date in which states and districts can expect to receive federal funds that were appropriated for the subsequent school year. This year, the federal government is withholding those funds. California alone was set to receive $811 million to fund programs to support English learners, migrant students, and afterschool and summer learning programs.
