Californians Together, CABE California Association for Bilingual Education and other organizations made public comments at the State Board of Education meeting to address the proposed redesign of the new LCAP template.
Although improvements were made to the template, areas that still need attention are:
– the templates need to be translated so they are in the languages of our communities
– to ensure engagement is meaningful districts must explain how stakeholders is reflected in the LCAP
-the templates need to include prompts for descriptions of the language acquisition programs and the professional development offered for teachers working with ELs
– prompts in the template must specifically request districts to identify subgroups and their goals and actions differentiated to promote closing the achievement gap for those underperforming.
